Badminton Spielregeln – Kurz und Kompakt

Badminton Rules – Short and Compact

1. Scoring – How Points are Made

In badminton, a match is played to two winning games of 21 points.

  • Every rally wins a point (Rally Point System).
  • At 20:20, the game goes into extra time.
  • If a player wins with a 2-point lead, the game is decided.
  • At 29:29, the next point wins (i.e., 30:29).

2. Serve – What You Need to Know

  • The serve is made diagonally into the opposite service court.
  • The entire shuttlecock must be below a height of 1.15m at the point of impact. If it is higher, it is a fault.
  • Both feet must be in contact with the ground during the serve.
  • With an even score (0, 2, 4 …), the serve is from the right, with an odd score, from the left.

In doubles, additional rotation rules apply – here, the right to serve changes depending on which team wins the point. This means that as long as a team continuously has the serve, the same player serves. Only when the other team breaks the serve does the other player serve.

3. When is a Shot "Out"?

A shot is out if:

  • it lands outside the lines
  • it touches the ceiling or walls
  • it flies under the net

Important: The lines are considered part of the court – if the shuttlecock touches the line, it is in.

4. Faults in the Game

A fault occurs, among other times, when:

  • the shuttlecock touches the ground on one's own side
  • the player touches the net with their racket or body
  • the shuttlecock is hit twice in a row by the same player or by both players in doubles

5. Breaks & Change of Ends

    • As soon as the first player reaches 11 points, there is a 60-second break. If the second player reaches 11 points, there is no break.
    • After every game, the players change ends. At the same time, there is a 2-minute break.
    • In the third game, additionally at 11 points
    • Short drink breaks can always be taken, but should not be too long and should not disrupt the game rhythm.
